ULAB Student Paper Published in Neuromorphic Computing and Engineering!
Proud to share that my ULAB EEE students Anika Tabassum Meem and Muntasir Hossain Nadid have published “Energy-aware spike budgeting for continual learning in spiking neural networks for neuromorphic vision” in Neuromorphic Computing and Engineering (IOP Publishing)!
I served as supervisor and corresponding author on this work, continuing mentorship from my years as Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).
The paper introduces an energy-aware spike budgeting framework for continual learning in spiking neural networks, combining experience replay, learnable LIF neuron parameters, and an adaptive spike-budget controller. On frame-based datasets, spike budgeting reduces rates by up to 47% while improving accuracy; on event-based datasets, controlled budget relaxation yields accuracy gains up to 17.45 percentage points.
